The Cadence Academic Network is also a career network. We love to help students from our Academic Network Contributor Group network with other members, so they can start a new career or do an internship with their knowledge and experience in Cadence technologies. One such networking event was held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. The Cadence Academic Network hosted Prof. Anis Haque and the students of Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada at the Cadence Headquarters in San Jose. The visit was an interactive way for the students to learn more about Cadence, meet with professionals from the company, and discover more about career paths and opportunities within EDA. At Cadence, we believe innovation starts with our people—and today’s students are the next generation of technology innovators. Keeping this mantra in mind, we invited industry experts from Cadence to talk to the students about the innovative technology they work on and why they love working at Cadence. The visit started with a breakfast session with Sam Chen, a recent PhD from Princeton University and now a lead design engineer at Cadence. Sam spoke to the students about Cadence's Tensilica Xtensa processor, a tool for creating IP cores in customer applications. Sam’s presentation was followed by Software Engineering Director Michaela Guiney’s presentation on inverters. Michaela demonstrated how an inverter can be built using Cadence's Virtuoso technology. After two sessions of discussing EDA and technology, Lauren Lightbody, HR manager, Culture and Communications, lightened up the serious room with her talk on Cadence culture and how Cadence is a great place to innovate. The students had big smiles on their faces by the end of Lauren’s presentation. The series of presentations ended with Software Engineering Group Director Hao Fang’s presentation on mixed-signal strategy. Hao Fang touched upon the basics of EDA, went on to talk about IC packaging, and ended his presentation talking about latest trends in EDA, such as photonics. Dr. Patrick Haspel, head of Global Academic Partnerships and University Programs, spoke to the students about various Cadence technologies and also shared information on career opportunities at Cadence. This group of students had very focused questions on Cadence technology, and were extremely interested to learn more about the company. The tour ended with lunch at the Cadence Bistro Café and the students were overheard talking about how fun it would be to work and innovate at Cadence. We love students and believe they are the future of innovation. If you'd like to schedule a student tour at any of our Cadence locations, please contact academicnetwork@cadenc e.com .
