On 21 April, Cadence and the Moscow Institute for Electronics Technologies (MIET) organized Technology Days in the MIET building in Zelenograd in the vincinity of Moscow. Zelenograd is the heart of the Russian microelectronics industry—both Russian foundries Angstrem and Mikron are located here, Russian fab-less companies like ELVEES and Milandr implement their advanced designs here, and also international companies like Freescale rely on the engineers from Zelenograd. Most of the engineers are graduates from MIET, which was the reason why, 14 years ago, Cadence and MIET established a Master’s Degree Program, where students are educated in electrical engineering using the latest Cadence design tools and flows. Cadence helped to develop the courses and regularly verifies the quality of education, since very few topics get as quickly outdated as microelectronics. More than 250 students have graduated from the Cadence-MIET program. The students work half of the time in the companies, which are paying for the education, therefore it is quite easy for the university to invite not only the students, but also representatives of the companies for the Technology Days, which traditionally are organized twice a year and can be considered as a Russian CDNLive in miniature. This year's program was more than compelling. Two weeks after the announcement of Virtuoso ADE Explorer, Assembler, and Verifier at CDNLive in Silicon Valley, Christoph Padberg from the Cadence Munich office was explaining the latest features to the more than 70 visitors of the event. Anton Klotz presented recent and future developments of microelectronics, which sooner or later will also be available in Russia, so Russian students should be prepared for them. Mikhail Alekseev from Zelenograd office talked about the new Modus digital test solution, and Michael Jacob gave a presentation about the advanced verification methodologies. After the presentations, quite a lively roundtable with all kinds of Cadence-related questions was formed, which showed real interest of the participants in Cadence technologies and real willingness to use them for their future projects.
