Memcon is an event like few others, where SoC architects congregate to learn and debate the strategies of system design to keep up with the insatiable data/throughput demands of today’s electronics. The topics range from memory technology to system architectures, as captured in the MemCon 2015 Proceedings . While this year’s agenda will provide similar, updated information, there are 3 things you probably don’t know about MemCon 2016 . #1 – Cadence / Tektronix LPDDR4 Demo Lab Historically, MemCon has been a conference for sharing and debating knowledge, with a small trade show presence. This year, Cadence and Tektronix are collaborating to demonstrate a 3200Mbps LPDDR4 IP and measurement solution in a Demo Lab at the event. Contact Steve Brown ( stevebr@cadence.com ) to reserve a session to see the demo. #2 – The application-optimized DDR PHY The DDR interface is ubiquitous, successfully used in applications ranging from high-end cloud servers and storage, to smartphones and low-cost consumer products. The challenge is that each application has its own system demands, and no single DDR subsystem will work for them all. Historically, the work of configuring and optimizing a DDR IP is fully upon the system architect and IP integrator. Starting from highly configurable IP, these engineers would select various DDR parameters to achieve the bandwidth, latency, power, and area goals of their system. Figure 1: Segment-specific DDR PHY Products This is starting to change at Cadence, where we are supplying DDR PHY IP that is pre-optimized for particular segment applications. These IP are pre-hardened with segment-appropriate parameter settings. The remaining configuration parameters are available for the customer to integrate and tune, with greatly reduced overall effort. More details will be shared in the DDR Demo Lab; contact Steve Brown ( stevebr@cadence.com ) to reserve a session to discuss these plans. Details can be seen in a video about Cadence’s Application-Optimized DDR PHY . #3 – MemCon keynote speakers This year’s keynote speaker will be Stephen Pawlowski, vice president advanced computing solutions, Micron. Come see what he has to share! Read more about Cadence DDR IP solutions . See you at MemCon 2016! Steven Brown
