Have you tried a product incorporating the new USB Type-C port? Do you wonder how well it works? I recently bought a new laptop and monitor that support this interface. In fact, Type-C is the only port on those devices. Image courtesy Austin Event Photography I’ve been looking forward to the promise of a single, all-encompassing port ever since I wrote Why USB 3.0 Will Drive SoC Verification back in 2013. Well, it turns out that my prediction was off by a couple years, but Type-C is finally here. If you’re not familiar with it, USB Type-C is a connector that does 3 things: Transmits data at 10Gb/s Tunnels ultra-high-definition video using the DisplayPort protocol Delivers up to 100W of power to connected devices But that feature list doesn’t do justice to the benefits that Type-C delivers. So, to get one user’s perspective, check out this video: A Real-Life Encounter with the 3 Benefits of USB Type-C Is Type-C in your future as an SoC designer?
