Yes, it's true. After attending CDNLive EMEA for the last couple of years, Bayern München will not be there this year. Real Madrid eliminated them from the Champions League on April 18 (it was close, the game went to extra time). This isn't as silly as it sounds, they use the same hotel as CDNLive for their pre-game retreat for home games since it is near their stadium, so they really have been in the same hotel, adding a little photo opportunity when they arrive and depart for anyone interested in football (memo to Americans: that is every other country in the world). CDNLive will take place in the same hotel as usual, but just to see if you are paying attention, they have renamed it, and it is now called the INFINITY. Although casually everyone says it is in Munich, it is actually in Unterscheißheim, conveniently near the airport but the city center is half an hour away on the S-bahn. The format is the same as usual, two days spread over three days. It starts at noon on Monday, giving Europeans a chance to fly in that morning, and those of us who arrived at the weekend a leisurely breakfast. A light lunch will be provided in the Designer Expo where 24 companies will be exhibiting. Sessions are all afternoon on Monday, all day on Tuesday, and on Wednesday morning, before ending with lunch in time for everyone to fly out that afternoon. On Tuesday evening, there are the best presentation awards and an evening "event that rocks." The details are a secret even from me. But this is Bavaria, I think I'm safe in promising beer. Keynotes The keynotes start the morning on the second day, Tuesday. The master of ceremonies will be Sanjay Lall, who is the new head of worldwide field operations for EMEA, based out of UK. The Cadence keynote will be given by Tom Beckley who heads up custom design and printed circuit board, what in Cadence-speak we call CPG. He will give an update on the company for 2017. I recently wrote a post, Autonomous Is the New Mobile: Linley on Cars , and pointed out that the theme for 2017 was going to be cars. CDNLive EMEA's keynote is titled Autonomous Driving: A Few Thoughts , so is not going against that theme. The speaker will be Davide Santo who is the product line general manager of advanced driver assistance systems at NXP. I have lost track of where the Qualcomm acquisition of NXP has got to, but NXP is currently the market leader in automotive semiconductor, and so Qualcomm will inherit that crown. If you remember your semiconductor company M&A history, you know that NXP acquired Freescale in 2015. In turn, Freescale was a spinout of most of Motorola's semiconductor products division SPD. Davide is a veteral of Motorola, Freescale, and NXP (and soon to be Qualcomm, presumably all without changing his office). He also worked in optical networking at Pirelli Optical Cable and digital wireless communication for Sony. His motto apparently is "The Why counts more than the What and How," so hopefully we will find out just what that means in the context of autonomous vehicles. If you are especially interested in automotive, there is an Automotive and IP track running on Monday afternoon and all day Tuesday. Technical tracks On Monday morning, there are seven technical tracks: Digital Implementation and Signoff Custom Mixed Signal IP and SoC Verification PCB and Package Automotive and IP Academic On Tuesday, after the keynotes in the main hall, this expands to nine tracks. The PCB track is split into two, one in English and one in German, and a second verification track is added: Digital Implementation and Signoff Custom Mixed Signal IP and SoC Verification Software and System Verification PCB Design and Analysis (English) PCB Design und Analyse (German/Deutsch) Automotive and IP Academic On Wednesday the tracks are a mixture of education, technology deep dives, and normal presentations.
