Did you make it to MWC Shanghai? I didn’t, but I read about what was hot – narrowband (NB) IoT. Three of Cadence’s customers had Tensilica Fusion F1 DSP demos on the show floor. Xinyi Information Technology, a China-based company, showed off the first single-core modem that integrates a CMOS power amplifier with the modem. Their Marconi X1 modem features an NB-IoT protocol stack from Huachang Technology, who was able to optimize the stack on the Fusion F1 DSP and reduce code size by 20 percent compared to other processor architectures. Read more here . Raphael Micro, from Taiwan, showcased the Fusion F1 DSP in its NB-IoT modem IC, which integrates RF radio and includes necessary firmware support. The Fusion F1 DSP allowed Rafael Micro to implement its modem with 36 percent lower power and 45 percent smaller code size compared to a competitive processor they also evaluated. Read more here . Third, L&T Technology Services, of India, launched new NB-IoT L1-L2-L3 protocol stack IP based on the Fusion F1 DSP. You may not have heard of L&T Technology Services, but their customer base includes 52 Fortune 500 companies and they have around 12,300 employees, ready to service their customers’ engineering requirements. See their press release . These three companies are not alone in selecting the Fusion F1 DSP for NB-IoT. Others include Galileo with their software GPS solution, CommSolid with their NB-IoT modem, and the Realtek Sensor Hub SOC. And there are more we haven’t announced yet.
