Cadence pulled a fast one at DAC 2018, almost like a bait and switch. We advertised a hands-on workshop to learn about Accellera Portable Stimulus Specification (PSS) v1.0. But we made participants compete head to head, for prizes, and their pride! This was the First Annual Pi Contest! View video of the event here : www.youtube.com/watch The good news is that everyone had fun. Their heart rate was up, palms sweaty, brows furrowed in concentration. They had to learn the PSS syntax, internalize the architecture of an example SoC, examine an example PSS test, and then attack the task of changing the test to accomplish something new. All in 30 minutes or less! Read more about the portable stimulus coding contest here . Figure 1: Contest SoC Block Diagram Each day we declared a winner of the grand prize: a Raspberry Pi® 3 Model B: Figure 2: Raspberry Pi is a registered trademark of The Raspberry Pi Foundation Congratulations to the Grand prize Raspberry Pi Winners: Monday: Horace Chan of Microsemi Tuesday: Cristian Albina of Microchip Wednesday: Anupam Bakshi of Agnisys These gentlemen demonstrated aplomb and have our great respect for their achievement! In addition to these daily winners, we awarded a prize to the winner of each heat: a Pi t-shirt for the most famous startup in the work, Pied Piper, from the HBO Show “Silicon Valley” . For everyone else, including the contest staff, contest audience, and DAC strollers, we handed out fruit pies. We missed that there is a Pied Piper Pies company , and instead provided a treat from our youth, Hostess Fruit Pies . Thanks goes to Cristian Amitroaie of AMIQ , for supplying their DVT tool for contestants to edit PSS (DSL, C++, or SLN) code. It was a great demonstration of PSS interoperability . I want to thank the folks at ChipEstimate.com for their hospitality and video services. It will be fun to exceed our achievements at DAC 2019!
