How to Find the Best SoC Verification Engineers in the World

I joined Verisity Design in 2002, as the Senior Product Manager for Specman Elite . Previously I had launched formal verification products, created a sub-micron static timing analysis product, and developed a compiled Verilog simulator. These were leading edge technologies in the era where a private DAC demo was the ultimate product launch. Along with cool technology came super smart engineers and customers. But the caliber of engineers working on Specman was another level entirely. Note: Join the LinkedIn Specman Users Group by clicking here. The brainiac thing about Specman is the concepts of creating a language to describe a new level of abstraction, to enable automation to do the heavy work of generating stimulus and checking simulation results. It's one thing to describe hardware in Verilog. It's another thing entirely to capture test intent, manage configuration parameters, and organize the code for reuse from IP to chip to system, and from project to project. I'm honored to again have the responsibility as Product Manager for Specman. It's a different marketing challenge these days. Mostly we spend our time enhancing usability, optimizing performance, and supporting new tools and methodology. It is used to enable new products (ex: see vManager and Perspec System Verifier ). And some customers ask where they can hire Specman competent engineers. Many can be found in the Specman Users Group on LinkedIn. And new engineers are graduated every year. Several universities in the US and Europe teach advanced verification using Specman (more on that later). So if you're looking for the best verification engineers in the world, look for those with Specman experience.
