The winners of the Tensilica Xtensa Embedded DSP Design Contest have been announced! The winning team members from CMR Institute of Technology, Bengaluru and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka received a HTC Desire 620G mobile phone each and the team guide received an Apple iPad mini. The final projects were judged by Sarang Shelke, Tensilica Design Engineering Director and Rakesh Mallik, Product Validation Architect from Cadence on criteria’s such as inventiveness, complexity, feasibility, breadth of design, effective tool usage, and presentation. The judges felt the submissions received were of extremely high quality not just in terms of ideas but in execution as well. The winning teams understood the problems clearly and used a new approach to optimization of SSD and DTD algorithm on Xtensa architecture. This year’s design contest had two problem statements—Solid State Drive (SSD) Controller and Double Talk Detection (DTD)—and more than 30 teams from 16 institutes from India and Bangladesh submitted their proposals. Dr. ABM Harun-ur Rashid from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, who mentored the team that proposed a design for the Double Talk Detection (DTD) problem statement, said, "It has been an outstanding experience participating in Tensilica Xtensa Design Contest. “Xtensa Xplore” is an amazing tool to get to get hands-on experience on developing Embedded-DSP algorithm. If the algorithm and execution procedure improve the real time Double Talk Detection (DTD) problem even a little to connect the missing dots, we would be delightful. Although, it took a lot of time to master the data type and fixed point operations, we are very happy that hard work paid off."
