It's verification week this week, with 5 posts about various aspects of Cadence's portfolio of verification tools. (Please visit the site to view this video) Monday: At CDNLive in Bengaluru, Michal Siwiński gave a Verification Technology Update . Learn about everything that is new (and some stuff in the pipeline). JasperGold, Incisive, Palladium, Protium, and more. Tuesday: Perspec is a tool for software driven testing. It is almost unbelievable technology, but not the most well-known tool (it is still pretty new). Cadence is also one of the major drivers of the portable stimulus standard, which is related to Perspec since it has to create stimulus to drive any verification engine. Wednesday: The three ages of simulation. The first Verilog simulators were interpreted. An intermediate stage had Verilog compiled into C. Then NC-Verilog compiled the RTL straight into machine instructions. These first two phases lasted until now. The third phase is just beginning, the parallel simulation era. Thursday: Over to the hardware world to look at how the complementary capabilities of Palladium and Protium allow you to get the best of both worlds. Visibility when you need it, speed when you don't. Friday: Back to Perspec. The hurdle to using Perspec is to create a model of your system. But this turns out to be less challenging that it seems. Then the full power of the reasoning engines in Perspec can be brought to bear on extremely complex verification scenarios that would be hard to impossible to code by hand.
