As they say time is money! It indicates that there is always a value in making the technology and processes simple to save time and effort. Virtuoso © System Design Platform—the Electronics Product of the year 2017 award winner—has been riding high since its launch. It provides a holistic solution that eliminates the barrier between IC and package design teams and enables you to seamlessly extend the tools that are already being used for IC design into the world of multi-die design. Having said that, there has been a continuous drive to iron out the flow and simplify the processes. For simplification, the mental models of the users are considered. There is an analysis performed about the assumptions users have in their minds before interacting with a product. Subsequently, designing or simplification of the tasks is done in such a way that you can proficiently use the product. Let's consider this scenario. Earlier, three schematics were created in the design cycle: Pre-layout schematic to perform an early sanity check. Implementation schematic to drive the LVS-clean package. Post-layout schematic to verify simulations in context of layout parasitics. However, now the Single Schematic Flow in Virtuoso System Design Platform has been one such functionality that simplifies the product usage. It allows you to generate a hierarchical schematic that can be used for simulations as well as for driving the layout of the package. Going forward, only one master schematic will drive package layout and perform both pre- and post-layout simulations. There is a video available on Cadence Support Portal that showcases the single schematic flow. It illustrates the following sub-tasks of the single schematic flow: Quickly creating an extracted schematic view from the master schematic to perform the pre-layout simulations. Automatically importing and stitching layout parasitic models into the extracted schematic view for post-layout simulations. Choosing a portion of the master schematic view to create the extracted schematic view. Highlighting objects in the master schematic view corresponding to the models stitched in the extracted schematic view. Performing the Schematic versus Schematic check to note any differences in the master and extracted schematic views.
