DETROIT—In automotive electronics applications, the environment around a typical engine control unit is unforgiving. It’s unforgiving environmentally, and there’s no room for failure because safety is such a huge factor. Jamie Piaget, Cadence applications engineer, travelled to SAE Convergence here in October to demonstrate schematic model generation, mixed-signal simulation, and power intent modeling using Virtuoso on an ARM-based engine control unit. The Virtuoso tool generates WREAL models for simulation, models pressure and temperature stimulus and response within the engine unit, and models power intent across multiple power domains to ensure proper level shifting and efficient use of the power domains. Here’s her short demo: (Please visit the site to view this video) Brian Fuller Related Stories: -- Webinar: Improved Global Design Collaboration with Cliosoft and Virtuoso -- Functional Safety and ISO 26262: Designing Against the Worst Case
