When plotting waveforms in Virtuoso Visualization and Analysis across sweeps you might want to group plots with the same values together, or display each corner in the same color etc. Of course, you can right-click on the plot and select Copy to or Move to and move the plots manually, but did you know there was an assistant to do this for you? Take this plot as an example. OUT is swept for vdd of 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5 and temperature of 10, 20, 30, 40 & 50. What if you wanted to group this by voltage so that all the plots that have a vdd value of 1 are grouped together? Just open the Customize Trace Groups assistant from the Window-Assistants menu or right-click the menu bar. The drop-downs allow you to control how to organize your plots. Grouping by strip This allows you to group traces by strip using the value selected from the strip drop-down menu. For example, if you selected vdd from the Strip drop-down, then all the plots with a common vdd value are plotted on the same strip. If a design has multiple trace families, you can see in the demo below how changing the strip option to Family groups the waveforms by name. Also worth noting is that the trace option shows everything in a separate strip and the leaf option shows the plots for the same temperature and voltage values together. Grouping by color Plots can also be grouped by color. The example below shows the strips organized by vdd , but the colors organized by family . So, the same signal names are plotted in the same color. If we change the color option to temperature , then all plots with the same temperature value are plotted in the same color. Grouping by symbol In addition to grouping traces by strip and color you can group them by symbols . In this example, the plots with the same vdd value are grouped by strip, those with the same temperature value are grouped by color and the ones from the same family have the same symbol. If you have multiple subwindows, you can select the All Subwindows option to apply the customizations to all the subwindows.
