Bradley Brim had a busy DesignCon 2014. Not only did the Cadence Senior Staff Product Engineer spend time demonstrating technologies in the Cadence booth and talking with customers, but he presented a paper with his colleague Mike Kang (Cadence applications engineering director) and Xilinx's Chris Wyland (senior staff signal integrity engineer in the System Signal Integrity Group) and Romi Mayder (manager of transceivers and IOs at Xilinx). (Brim also found time to organize and participate as a speaker in a panel session on system-level power integrity).

The paper centered on a key challenge in chip-package and board design today: simultaneous switching output (SSO) analysis.

As the team wrote in the paper:

"The technical objectives were to understand the requirements for low-frequency spectral content of frequency domain models, how to best store/transmit this information and how to most successfully apply the information for SSO analyses with TD circuit simulators. The goal was a best known method (BKM) applicable to various FD model extraction tools and various TD circuit simulation tools."

Below, Brim describes the rationale behind the paper and the technological analysis. You can read the full paper here and review the slides here.
